2 Kick Ass Beers to Have on Tap

Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale

From BCO pix

Pale Ale using massive amounts of oily fresh hops (as opposed to dried hops like 99.999% of beers.)
9 outta 10, Deschutes Hop Trip is better at 11 outta 10

Bells Hell Hath No Fury
From BCO pix

A quite tasty Belgian Strong Ale, better on tap than in the bottle.

If you see these on tap ... TRY 'EM! The SN Harvest is a rare 1.5 to 2 month treat! BCO realized his real calling is to own/manage a top flight beer bar. Lil money it, but that is my passion, maybe even over College FB and BB!

BCO will be lucky to have Michelob Amber Bock tomorrow for the Oyster Roast ... sigh. Bud Heavy for 2 hours is gonna suck.

Gone Drinkin'

From BCO pix

Come back tomorrow ... maybe, will be drinking early then.

Til then, southernpigskin.com has had a site redesign ... looks good.

Taphouse here I come with the lawman and the professor.

CFB Week 10 Television Viewing Guide

Florida vs Georgia

From BCO pix

Texas vs Texas Tech
From BCO pix

Those 2 games and the rest is meaningless. National title hopes will be dashed this weekend for 2 of these teams while the other 2 move up and on.

Florida will come out ANGRY. Tebow will look like Tebow and the speed of Florida is going to overwhelm the Dawgs. I believe it. Tough, physical teams with speed hurt the gators. ugga better bring it on D or they'll being watching smoke, LSU style. At the very least "The World's Biggest Cocktail Party" will have so much fine 20 year old ass that their are no losers in attendance this day!
From BCO pix

The mad scientist Mike Leach finally has talent to go with his schemes and an improved D. He'll need it Colt McCoy has been out of this world. He is out younging Vince Young. Extremely impressive ... How the hell does he complete 80% of his passes? The fastest show on Turf is in Lubbock and I think for this magical nite of sauced up, disrespected Red Raider fans will make it a mad house.
From BCO pix

Two days early, I know but Ize busy drinking the next 2 nites!

BCO was ridin' easy street last week! Let's go to VEGAS, BABY!

This week's games and picks:

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Thu 10/30 7:30 ESPN cincity souf flow-rida (-3.5)

Ehh, not really a good game and the BCO will be feverishly carving pumpkins but I needed an 8th game …. The Bulls, I guess.

Sat 11/1 noon Raycom The U uva (+1)

The Hot Shit game of the week in the ACC. Will be a tight one, home dog hoos vs embarrassed from last season's 48-0 drubbing Canes. Watching uva do so well is like salt to my wounds. Me thinks the ACC gods will continue to pour Morton's on me.

noon ESPN-gp w FN vu (-3.5) UConn'd

Quietly, like the hoos the neers have turned it around and the coaches figured out how to coach up the O. Take note, Stiney. Uconn is a 1 trick pony, but that 1 trick is pretty damn good. Brown can run his ass off, but so can White and Devine.

2:30 NBC P.I.T.T. ND (-5)

Another ehh game but one of these losers, Wanny or Weis is going home a loser. Saw where Wanny is being called the new Tommy Bowden …. Hmmm give Charlie a few more years, he may have that label too.

3:30 CBS Florida (-5.5) Ugga

The dawg stomp, the beat down, followed by furious whining by Urban Meyer. He put his team on media lockdown this week. Ruh-roh scoobie, these Gators will hunt! This along with the Texas shootout is can't miss TV.

3:30 ABC f$u GiT (+2)

The noles are back … well, ok they aren't but they are the best team in the ACC … right now. To beat GiT, you have to be disciplined … never a Nole strong point even when they were kickass in the 90's. Smells like a loss to me.

3:30 ESPN-gp Oregon Cal (-3)

Yeah, this game is picked, purely for the number of points likely to light up the scoreboard. 30+ each, but could go much higher. The Oregon spread is fun to watch even if the qb was 3rd or 4th on the depth chart back in August.

8:00 ABC Tejas Tejas Tech (+6)

Down goes Frazier … DOWN GOES COLT! The BCO hopes that all the Red Raiders ring the bell like this guy (below) Saturday nite. Another B12 shootout? If anyone can stop or slow down the TT Spread it's Muschamp but those freshman safeties have got to worry him. Stupid Date Nite is threatening to ruin this game for the BCO! Someone take my wife out on a date .... I kid, I kid.

Auburn isn't at a total loss this or any season! NSFW pics of a fine alum ... DamYUM. How she wasn't around when I was throwing Beads in NAWLINS 4 years ago? I would have dropped every bead I had on them!

Another Busy BCO Week

Sched

From BCO pix

Hanging with Prof Andy and lawman Ed on Tuesday nite and have an Oyster Roast (and beer) to go to Wednesday afternoon with HT the big Jack-0-latern head himself. i.e. updates those 2 nites will be brief, if at all, cause ize could be a bit drunks and the lil woman will not let me shirk my responsibilities 2 nites in a row.
From BCO pix
Ok, so the oyster roast we attend is outdoors but a relative hottie w/oysters beats just oysters!

So gotta write the SP.com column tonite and at least get 80% of the viewing sched done to be posted Wed or Thurs a.m. tomorrow nite.

Gotta theory about the World Series and the Chicago Cubs, but the Rays have to win it for it be valid. Won't give it up til (if) then. BTW, Prof Andy went to game 3 of the W.S. last nite and stayed til the end or if he dint, he better lie to me.

f$u Thoughts
From BCO pix

Well the BCO did not have full divided attn, the lil woman HAD to be at work so I had to juggle the 3 and 1 year olds. Not fun. The better team won (that make you happy G?)
bullet style ramblings
  1. First, hats off to the D for playing their asses off. A couple amazing catches, a few great escapes by Ponder and they would struggle to get 17 points on the day.
  2. Marcus Sims coughed the ball up before he scored, a pivotal play. ACC refs suck.
  3. Play of the game, roughing the Kicker, VT had played them straight up and were winning. sigh! Dadgumit owns Frank on special teams. like a fucking rented mule.
  4. VT would not have been in it if Tyrod were the qb. He is in a severe mental funk right now. Insiders say he throws accurately and on time in practice. In the game (since Kansas) he is hesitant and half second late IF he decides to throw it. Glennon for some damn reason only plays well after a benching. WTF.
  5. Holt played well, good for him. We may need him again. 4th string is a walkon, Jeff Beyer. Flush the season if takes the field.
  6. Neither OL was worth a shit. Wang is a pussy, step up and hit the mofo, you outweigh him by 60 lbs.
  7. VT-f$u has been extremely physical 2 games in a row. Lots of people getting hurt. P-Stump absolutely killed a few noles yesterday. He is getting better and better. Kam Chancellor looked better. Cody Grimm is better than Cam Martin, who would have thunk that?
  8. Boykins after his first drop yesterday looked good. He will be a player for VT starting next year.
  9. Stiney actually called a pretty decent game, probably his best of the season. The throwback TD to Smith was pretty.
  10. The ACC is ridicolous, how can uva left for dead 4 weeks ago be leading the Coastal? VT and uva control their own destiny .... if they win out to face each other. FAT Chance. 10 teams have winning records in the ACC. wow.
  11. How bout doook over mid of the $ec pack Vandy. double WOW.

I should have something tomorrow, maybe we'll have some news about the qb's ... the 12 day break for their health comes at a great time. Guessing Glennon will be ready before TT. The kid is injury prone.

CFB Week 9 Television Viewing Guide

3 States and Polytech lead the way in games this week for the BCO. Though he will keep an eye on the Texas game, you just never know, especially if Roger Clemens invites his good pal Derek Jeter and his hot ass girlfriend Minka Kelly. Hook'em Horns!

From BCO pix

Not liking the Hokies' chances vs dadgumit and the noles and that was before the embarrassment of the O got broadcast on national Tv. f$u isn't as good at the DT's, isn't as disciplined and plays man2man for the most part which really, really helps Tyrod Taylor. Unfortunately the wideouts still suck nuts. Could get ugly if the D gambles as much as they did last week. I hate DADGUMIT.
From BCO pix

JoePaPa needs to keep winning, since Dadgumit caught his 234th wind and is pushing to see who will have the most wins when they die. Ol Joe can't even coach from the field, sorta sad, even if he is a cranky SoB who is slumming it to win. Anyway, the bucknuts will not go down easily and certainly not at home. They still think they are the conference's alpha dog and will take people predicting the Nittany Lions to win as a slight. Pa native Terrelle Pryor might put on a show, but the BCO thinks the fast PSU offense will ring up the scoreboard as well. tOSU has issues with teams like this.
From BCO pix

Previous picks and Season to date;
Last week Straight up: 5-3 -------------- Season: 36-28
Last week Against the Spread: 4-4 ----- Season: 39-25

Ehhh, a so-so week. The BCO is leading a 150 person group in picks against the spread, getting 60.5% correct so far. These pickems have me at 60.9%. BCO won it 2 years ago. If the economy keeps going down, I may be forced to make a living gambling and drinking beer.

This week's picks:

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Thu 10/23 7:30 ESPN Auburn w F'n vu (-3.5)

BCO knows a couple things, 1) take the home team on a Weeknite ESPN game. Kids are jacked the hell up. 2) Auburn's offense is worse than the neers and only 6 spots higher than the Hokies. Ouch. Tigers get HomeJobbed.

Sat 10/25 noon ESPN Tejas Tech Kansas (-2.5)

Rock Chalk Jayhawk, not the team they were last year, funny how that happens when you play a good schedule but they have been battle tested. The Red Raiders might be looking ahead to the Longhorns. KU takes down a undefeated team.

3:30 CBS ugga LSU (-3)

Remember when the Bulldogs were everone's consensus best team in CFB? Lose 4 starting OL, have no experienced wideout and a slightly overrated QB and they are just another really good team. Tigers at home win in the trenches, easily.

3:30 ABC/ESPN Okie St (+15.5) Texas

Crazy Mike Gundy takes his boys down to Texas, game 3 of the really hard 4 game stretch, OU, Mizzou, OSU and TT. Colt is the man, he's been incredible with just good, not great talent around him. OSU is the best running team in the B12. Might be they slow the game down a bit.

3:30 ABC VT f$u (-5)

Last year the BCO knew, no question that VT was going to end the Bowden curse on Frank and beat the Noles. This year … ehhh, not so much. Better, older, more in tune athletes. Bud will slow but not stop Rb Smith but the O will get abused again. I hate Dadgumit and I am sure he'll say something country smug after the win. ASSHOLE.

7:45 ESPN bamer (-6) tennessee

Nick Satan is vindicative man, he will spin Fat Fil's selling out Bamer to save the Vols from probation 8 years ago or so to this bunch. They are to walk into Knoxville surrounded by 110,000 puke orange idiots and beat firing out of Phulmer. Gonna be fun to see.

8:00 ABC State Penn (-1.5)
tOSU

So State Penn is the B1 & tOSU is just one of the 10 in the B1+10, this year. Hmmm, not so sure about that. Sweatervest will have his boys up and make it really hard for State Penn to win in the Horseshoe. It's a battle of styles, whoever can force their style on the other wins. Grind it out, tOSU, speed it up PSU. PSU has not been tested this year, they will on Saturday. "To be the Man ..."

10:15 FSN USC Zona (+15)

Well look who is 5th in the initial BCS poll after getting slapped around by some previously whipped Beavers. The Trojans are going to be right back in there again, flying under the radar the last 2 weeks, can they continue to stay focused vs all these inferior teams in the Pac10? No better big game coach, but he teams get bored and don't show up vs the chump teams from time to time.

Beer Info

The Hoos Ain't Happy Zima is Gonzo!

From BCO pix

Ok, ok, Zima is not beer but don't tell the peeps in C-ville that.
MillerCoors says goodbye to Zima.

The joint venture told distributors in a letter Monday that production of the malt liquor beverage was discontinued as of Oct. 10.

Chief Marketing Officer Andy England says the decision was due to weakness in the "malternative" segment and declining consumer interest.

He says distributors can get remaining Zima inventories most likely through December.

Teens Get Drunk On Award-Winning Microbrew

...Though none of the teens were able to comment on the Nut Brown Stout's chocolatey aroma or its surprisingly smoky almond finish, Rosenthal did say that it had "fucked him up majorly" and that he was "seriously payin' the price."

Added Gobbola: "Dude, I was ripped to the tits."

Despite consuming enormous quantities of the beer, the teens failed to detect the all-wheat malt that MacTadcaster's has developed over the years to give its beer "bottom." Further, none of them commented on the beer's uniquely dry, smoky hopping or the pleasant coffee highlights so often discussed among MacTadcaster's Nut Brown Stout cognoscenti.

Only the rich, robust texture of the beer drew any comment from the teens, with Sheehan overheard telling Rosenthal, "That beer is some thick shit."...

The Damn Finally Broke

From BCO pix

Well it was only a matter of time, before the ATROCIOUS Hokie offense would cost VT a game. Hell, even a bad offense would have won the game vs BC. Beamer covering his mouf and nose ... the stink of the O is overwhelming.

From BCO pix

5 BC turnovers, 17 points off the TO's. that's 6, 2 FG's of offense all day. Take away Tyrod's scrambling for his life and VT has like 130 yards of offense. TT is a long, long way afrom being a mediocre Bryan Randall qb. Now, I know the very young wideouts have blame in this, as does the OC but he doesn't even see wide open guys vs the sisters of the poor.

I don't want to beat on this subject anymore, frankly I am tired of it. I do know VT will lose at least 2 more, starting this weekend and probably 3 to tell you the truth. Frank will buck hard about dumping Stinespring, I mean really hard. This is going to be an ugly situation by the time December gets here. I find it weird that BC who recruits very tall, pass blocking OL can block spread option runs 100x better than VT's OL. How come VT can't be a bit better at that? Beyond frustrating.

From BCO pix

The D will have issues next year as well, if the DT's can't play better. They got owned last nite.

From BCO pix

Mark Herzlich is a bad muthafucka! The BCO would love to see him as an OLB in Pittsburgh's 3-4 Defense when he comes out. That dude is a flat out stud.

If VT gets housed in Tallahassee next weekend, the season could get very ugly. The BCO does not have a good feeling about this game, unlike last year. That said, TT should look better, f$u plays man to man and he handles that much better than zone defenses.

Texas
From BCO pix

Props to Texas, I knew they were pretty good but damn did the put the spank on Mizzou. UT and Bama have spanked some good teams, but UT hasn't had any mental let down games ... yet. PSU is hurt by a bad conference. They need help and like will get it from the $EC.

CFB Week 8 Television Viewing Guide

From BCO pix

Since BYU cougar wiminz don't put out, I thought pic of a Cougar who does would work well here today.

From BCO pix

A pretty solid weekend of football. The Mountain West game is huge for BYU as this game and Utah look like the only tests they have left on the season. This O is high octane. The next 2 best games are in the nation's best conference, the Big 12. Mizzou at Texas and Kansas at OU. Sure Kansas is suspect, but they can score points. Both games will score 70 or more. Mizzou will rebound hard, I just got that feeling. Seems every opponent VT plays this year is pretty equal to them in talent, this week is no exception. BC's DT's and LB's are the best in the conference, Tyrod needs to get outside to pressure this D. How Maryland and Klempson play this week will be interesting and will tell a lot about the rest of the season for these 2 teams, one would think.

My latest SP.com article is here. Basically we have no clue how good the teams in the ACC are right now including VT, Maryland and uva.

If this pic doesn't make you puke (BC coach JagMeOff in Sox uni) I am not sure what will.

This week's Picks:

Day/Date Time Channel Visitor Home

Thu 10/16 8:00 Versus BYU (+1.5) TCU

Yeah, yeah ESPN has the noles vs the pack but who gives a crap. NCState is the worst team in the ACC. If the mormons win, then only Utah stands in their way to become a BCS buster. Trust me those guys are a bad fit in Souf Beach and Nawlins, booze sales would be hurting. TCU has the D but BYU's O is Big 12 like good.

Sat 10/18 noon ESPN GiT (-1) Klempson

Team implosion is going to man up and rally behind the new guy and their pride … they still can't block and too much distraction to prepare for the funky O. Now that the top 2 qb's are back for the jackets, that's not good news in Death Valley

noon Raycom Wake Forest Maryland (+1)

Shitty, Good, Good, Shitty … at home the Fridge will bust out we must protect this waffle house speech again (remember Cal.) Wake's D is good their O …ehhhh. This is gonna be a good game. Maryland after getting housed by the hoos will respond this week.

3:30 ABC Kansas (+19.5) OU

OU is gonna wanna wipe ass at home and poor Kansas with their suspect D will get tuned up a bit. They'll score enough to not look too bad but the Jayhawks are getting ready to cross an angry Sooner team.

3:30 ESPN2 tOSU Mich St (+3.5)

Spartan HC Mark Dantonio learned his trade from Nick Satan and the Sweater Vest, so he knows his shit. This is a battle of 2 stud rb's in Javon Ringer and man beast Beanie Wells. At home vs a flawed Buckeyes team, I think the Spartans tighten up and take it.

8:00 ESPN LSU (-3.5) South Carolina

The Ole Ball Coach an after thought in the SEC and now moving target for Les Miles' angry Bayou Bengals team. USC-e will be electric but the team doesn't have the horses. The cocks will be lucky to bust 17 points on this recently embarrassed LSU D.

8:00 ABC Mizzou (+6.5) Texas

My upset special of the week. Mizzou played uninspired, certainly looking fwd to the Horns. Well now they better tighten up or they will get embarrassed. The BCO thinks the O will primed up very well for UT and UT may be reading too many press clippings. 70+ combined, easily.

8:00 ESPN2 VT (+2.5) BC

Interesting to Hokie fans but let's be honest, neither O is likely to do shit and this could be a real snoozer. BC is awfully damn tough up front and VT's passing game hasn't been found in the bye week. Expect a close game to go the Eagles way. I hope our team remembers 2 years ago, the meltdown, last year the one that got away and the homo named Jags who danced on Worsham Field. Punch these assholes in the mouf!

Beer makes the BCO a Jolly Good Fellow

Hang with the BCO, your brain will get smaller!

From BCO pix
CNN health had an interesting article about brain shrinkage and beer. Click here to read.
People who drink alcohol -- even the moderate amounts that help prevent heart disease -- have a smaller brain volume than those who do not, according to a study in the Archives of Neurology.
Yeah that's it, the BCO drinks to prevent heart disease. The smaller brain volume reminds me of the Cheers quote by Cliff Clavin:
From BCO pix
Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
More from the article.
Men were more likely to be heavy drinkers than women. But the link between brain volume and alcohol wasn't as strong in men. For men, only those who were heavy drinkers had a smaller brain volume than those who consumed little or no alcohol.
Further proof men are stronger and the better sex. Like watching the average wiminz shit faced vs the averge guy dint clue us in earlier.

A Great Weekend

Bethany Beach

From BCO pix
Loaded up the family truckster powered over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, DelMarVa Peninsula, then thru Ocean City and landed in Bethany Beach Delaware. Nice, quaint and good for the kids. Great weather. Less than 3.5 hours from the 757. Dewey Beach looks like an even better place to stay. Tried 3 new beers this weekend, highlighted by Shmaltz Bittersweet's Lenny R.I.P.A. (yes, an Imperial Rye IPA, almost as good as Hop Rod Rye, less Hoppy.) So good, makes the beer in control this week.

College Football
From BCO pix
BCO and many others called a few upsets this weekend, not patting my back, history says this happens a few times a year. Texas, Florida and Okie State looked good knocking out 3 top 5 teams in doing so. Of the undefeated teams only BYU and State Penn have a chance of going thru unscathed. I think they'll both lose but they have the best shot. Texas DCoord Muschamp is a helluva DC, he's the only guy I may take over Bud Foster. Florida's team speed is unreal, not sure any team has ever had 4 guys so fast who could make plays. When a team has 3 guys as faster or likely faster than Percy Harvin on the field, you can fly. The whole power running is there flaw, unless Urban is saving Tebow for later, not to get him knicked up. Mizzou looked bad, one has to think they'll rebound well vs Texas in Austin this weekend, the game of the weekend.

Tommy, Whipping Boy No More
From BCO pix
Rumor was he would be canned at the end of the year after Thursday's loss, I guess that couldn't fast enough. Let the names rise to the surface as his replacement, possibly sinking a season or 2 for a few teams. Clemson with that talent is a good job. Right now the team chemistry is in bad shape.

Overall B

Food was tasty, chicken/shrimp club smothered in cheese, tasty. Beer was what I expected, though nothing "special" on tap. Palo Santo drinks like a slightly carbonated wine, interesting. The service and atmosphere was lacking. Our bartender was disinterested and lacked beer knowledge, but did have nice cans. The other was still hungover from last nite and told the t-shirt guy (also hungover and mopey even after 2 witnessed red bulls) that he didn't feel like working tonite while escaping his clients. The clientele was a bit older than I expected and a little reserved. Next time up I will do the brewery tour, hopefully, they care more there.

CFB Week 7 Television Viewing Guide

From BCO pix
The Halfway point or close for most teams for the Regular season. Sorta sad in a way, but awesome in another. Games are really, REALLY going to start mattering now. This weekend is shit hot with Sooners vs Horns and Tigers vs Gators with a couple of other really interesting games on the menu. Hokie fans can relax as VT is on a bye and sit and enjoy the other teams. I expect an upset or 2 ... say 2 from this group, Sooners, Jayhawks, Heels, Gators and Mizzou Tigers. We shall see.

The BCO sched has my blog posting out of whack and no column for SP.com this week. Delaware here I come ... a fine time to hit the beach, right?

Anyway to the important stuff ... who to choose in the Rivalry game!

or

DAMN.

The Red River Shootout, no Rivalry in this one ... this is pure anger that only a couple of other schools know better. Both are putting up points, but the BCO is guessing the defenses will have something to say about running it up on Saturday.

Thu 10/9 7:30 ESPN Klempson WF (-3)

Before the season started, this looked like the 2 best teams in the ACC. Now that 7 teams can make that claim and Klempson is Tommy's personal Yo-Yo while Navy clipped the Deacs, the luster is gone. Still a very solid Thurs nite lights game.

Sat 10/11 noon ABC OU Texas (-6.5)

Saturday starts off with a bang … the Red River Shootout, should be just that. Sure the game hasn't had been played with the loser within a td in a decade, but the BCO feels this changes Sat. Great all around teams, McCoy, Bradford and the best thing to happen to Mack Brown since Pre-crazy Vince Young ... Will Muschamp. A helluva DCoord. A don't miss, worth a divorce type game!

12:30 ESPN2 Colorado (+14) Kansas

An ok game that honestly no one is going to watch, not even their fans, but the BCO needed an 8th game.

3:30 ABC ND (+7) UNC

Wake up the echos … ND is back if they beat a barely ranked Heels team. Fallen very hard indeed. ND is getting their sea legs, as are those heels. ND can pass, UNC has a pretty fast and solid D. Should be pretty good. ND wants to be ranked at all this season, win here or shut it.

3:30 CBS UT ugga (-13)

The Vols suck … bad. Fulmer has the 4th longest tenure in the country, behind joe papa, dadgumit and Beams, expect that to end soon. The Dawgs got embarrassed last season in Knoxhole and after last week's bama fiasco, I expect a holy ass whupping to be laid on puke orange that will send Fat Fil to the Waffle House for 5 days.

8:00 CBS LSU (+4) UF

A very good game last year, that showed Tebow was truly a stud even in a loss and a "so-so" performance. UF has issues mainly no one to run the ball between the trenches. LSU has better lines and are tougher. LSU with the upset and changing peep's opinions on Les.

8:00 ESPN PSU (-5) Wisky

Joe PaPa bad wheel and all relaxing in the booth drinking metamucil while his boys destroy the other team and then every bar in State College every Saturday. A tougher test against the bad luck badgers but one they should ace with flying warrants for their arrests. PSU vs tOSU next week looms!

8:00 ESPN2 Okie State (-13.5) Mizzou

A shootout in the midwest, these O's are every bit as good or better than the OU/Texas ones but with a lot less defense. A fun way to end a great day of football. Not calling an Okie State win but they'll give Mizzou a lot to chew on, as Gundy mans up for Chase.
